Awareness Session on Cardio Health

 Awareness Session on Cardio Health

You don’t really have a problem until it's a health problem.

Dr. Fawad Farooq (Associate Professor, NICVD) highlighted essential steps we can take to improve cardiovascular health and prevent the onset of heart-related complications during the recently held awareness talk on Cardio Health.

The pillars of healthy living include balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, mental well-being, adequate sleep, and effective stress management.

Dr. Farooq emphasized that using BMI to assess body weight is now considered outdated. Instead, the waist-to-height ratio is superior to the BMI in the assessment of the cardiometabolic risk profile. He explained that the ideal waist size should be 35 inches for women and 40 inches for men, adding that an adult’s waist should ideally be less than half of their height.

Dr. Farooq also reminded the audience of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) recommended approach to eating i.e leaving one-third of the stomach empty when having a meal. He further cautioned that fats, sugar, and salt pose significant health risks, whereas fiber and protein are highly beneficial.

In conclusion, adopting mindful lifestyle choices is the key to protecting your heart and ensuring long-term well-being.

The session was organized by the Gym Committee of HPL in collaboration with the Cardio Care team.
